Shawna L. Domeyer
I grew up on a small farm in Holy Cross, Iowa and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 2009. I went on to receive my bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology from the University of Iowa. During my undergraduate years, I founded the University of Iowa Sociology Club, volunteered as a computer mentor at the Iowa City Senior Center, and worked as a research assistant for both the Iowa Social Science Research Center and the Center for the Study of Group Processes. I graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2017.
During my time as a law student, I worked for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Iowa State Public Defenders Office, and the Criminal Appeals Division of the Office of the Iowa Attorney General. I volunteered with the University of Iowa Clinical Legal Program and the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic violence, where I assisted survivors of domestic violence with their immigration issues. I also volunteered with the Johnson County Crisis Center as a crisis intervention specialist, assisting severely distressed people through their most troubled times. I joined Hammer Law Firm in the autumn of 2017, and I remain dedicated to helping those with the least power in our society.
